Ford F-150 Can Back up a Trailer for You
I’ve been driving fast cars on racetracks for years and have taught hoards of novice to do the same things over the years. When I had a track car that had to be towed to the track, the one thing I could never do well enough to not bruise my ego constantly was back the trailer up. If I couldn’t pull in and pull out without backing that thing up, I didn’t stop.
I’m not the only one who has trouble backing up a trailer and Ford is looking to make the task much easier with a new feature on the 2016 F-150 truck. The feature is called Pro Trailer Backup Assist (PTBA). The feature uses the electric power steering to handle the steering duties via a knob on the dash.
With the feature enabled, speeds are locked to between 1.9 and 4.3 mph depending on how much steering is needed. The cool thing is that the knob knows which way to actually turn the wheels when you want the trailer to go to the right. If you have never tried to back up a trailer, things are reversed. This sounds like a great feature for those who occasionally tow.
