Sony’s cable-cutting PlayStation Vue arriving in two weeks

Sony is preparing to roll out its PlayStation Vue TV streaming service in three major cities on the United States’ eastern seaboard.
The Wall Street Journal has been informed by SCE boss Andrew House, Sony will begin the commercial launch of PlayStation Vue in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia within the next two weeks. The platform is currently being tested by invited parties in the cities concerned.
The service promises to being access to many of the most popular television networks in the United States streamed live and on demand over the internet.
Vue gives PlayStation owners access to most of their favourite channels without the need to invest in expensive equipment or sign up to a cable or satellite contract.
Sony has convinced the likes of Comedy Central, MTV Food Network, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and all of Fox, NBC Universal and Viacom’s offerings. There are some notable absences of course, with premium content like ESPN, Showtime and HBO.
Sony’s platform will be available on the PlayStation 3 and PS4 consoles, while the company also plans to launch an app for the Apple iPad.

Sony faces stiff competition in the post-subscription TV marketplace as Dish Network’s Sling TV offering is already live and offers a greater level of content than Sony has so far announced; including ESPN.
Sony is yet to announce pricing details for its PlayStation Vue service, but they’re likely to confirmed in the days leading up to the soft launch in Chicago, NYC and Philly.
Whether Sony has any plans to launch in the UK, where the vast array of content is already available on demand without subscriptions remains to be seen.
